We explore non-equilibrium phenomena theoretically in condensed matter systems.

In solid state systems (termed 'quantum materials' nowadays), the non-equilibrium phenomena are mostly induced either by light (optical pump) or by electricity (electrical pump). The primary systems of interest are experimentally relevant materials and micro/nanoscale devices. Nonequilibrium phenomena are ubiquitous yet poorly understood, much like the 'clouds' that shadowed physics at the dawn of the twentieth century. They mark a frontier where major breakthroughs in condensed matter physics may emerge. For example, a typical theoretical question concerns the dynamics of an electron liquid after been excited by a strong light pulse.
